Markus Rendell's blog ::Calvin johnson named ACC Rookie-of-Year
Each year after the draft each league has at least one guy that thinks they have drafted the best, most unbeatable team to ever grace a sheet of 3 ring binder paper. By midseason, it's always a different story, as the flukes of September are long gone. Here is my list of the top 5 fantasy draft picks at each position if we were to redraft as of today, 3 games into the season. I will list the top 5 players that were taken on draft day from my league of Dolts (10 team PPR league), and what position they were selected. Then I will put down how they should be drafted as of today. Here is the orignal draft day list. We'll start with the QB's, then go RB's, WR's, then TE's. I'm not sure how many of you play in IDP leagues, but we'll skip defense for this list. QB's 1. Michael Vick (1-3) (I blame this on the TMR, unabashedly promoting Vick #1) 2. Aaron Rodgers (1-6) 3. Phillip Rivers (2-8) 4. Drew Brees (2-10) 5. Tom Brady (3-4) RB's 1. Adrian Peterson (1-1) 2. Ray Rice (1-3) 3. Arian Foster (1-4) (Risky given his gimpy hamstring) 4. Rashard Mendenhall (1-5) (Not a 1st rounder for the PPR game) 5. Jamal Charles (1-7) (R.I.P) (Don't judge because somebody picked Mendenhall 5th in a ppr draft, to each their own) WR's 1. Roddy White (2-2) 2. Andre Johnson (2-7) 3. Calvin Johnson (2-9) 4. Greg Jennings (3-3) 5. Hakeen Nicks (3-5) I think these guys are the top 5 receivers taken in just about every draft. Not so on redraft day. TE's 1. Antonio Gates (4-7) (Rex Ryan & Wifey would love to check on his maladies weekly) 2. Jermichael Finley (4-10) 3. Dallas Clark (6-2) (No Shirt, No Shoes No Peyton, No Dice) 4. Jason Witten (6-3) 5. Vernon Davis (7-9) Redraft 2011 QB's 1. Tom Brady- Off to the best start of a season for any QB of all time. Defense is pourous, will keep passing it all season long. 2. Aaron Rodgers- He's the best in the league, and will remain there for years to come. 3. Drew Brees- As usual he's lighting up the scoreboard, and he has a new secret weapon in Darren Sproles. He's already eclipsed Bush as a fantasy player in just 3 games. Bush couldn't do it in 3 years there. 4. Matthew Stafford- Lots of people have been anticipating a reward like this from Stafford as he has given his owners plenty to cheer about already. Armed with some heavy artillary for an arm, and a group of giants to throw to, Calvin 6'5", Pettigrew 6'7", Burleson -6'4". No running game to speak of, so this guy will be slingin that ball all over the field for the next 3 months. Nobody's production in the league is as closely tied to health as this guy. We shall see. 5. Matt Schaub- The Texans run game took a slight hit when Arian wasn't able to go in the first few weeks. Schaub took over, and with a healthy Owen Daniels back and playing well, he's going to be lighting in up for a while. Doesn't hurt to have one of the best WR's in the game to throw to either. RB's 1. Ray Rice- I like AP, but the Ravens just have more skill around Rice. AP has line trouble, QB trouble, and WR trouble. He's the only guy. Rice, who made mince meat of the vaunted Steeler D in week 1, is running carefree, and catching balls like he always has. Best PPR rb in the game for my money. 2. Darren McFadden- Hard call between him and Shady, but I go with McFadden simply because he's in an offense that is going to run the ball come hell or high water. McCoy will get his carries, but not as heavily as DMC will. Right now, is there a better back in football? That was rhetorical, the answer is no. 3. LeSean McCoy- See notes for Darren McFadden. Dude still catches tons of passes regardless of who is under center. He's a lock for 1500 total yards. 4. Fred Jackson- Outside of Ryan Fitzpatrick, this guy is the epitome of the Bills spread offense. He may not have all the accolades or the skill sets of some other highly prized guys, but he is a fit for this offense as his yardage totals will attest to. He was going to be #5 on the list, then something happened this week and that was..... 5. Ryan Matthews- Ryan Matthews has been giving us a command performance so far this season. All the things that he's been touted as being have finally materialized. He's running hard, catching the ball out of the backfield, and scoring from close range. The one thing that has been his bug-a-boo his entire career, injuries. He came away from practice again this week with some type of foot/toe ailment. I love his talent, and if he can ever manage to ward off the trainers for any length of time, we should see some big numbers. WR's 1. Calvin Johnson- Everybody should have known this when he put up all pro numbers last season. People forget to mention the fact that he had a bunch of JV quarterbacks throwing him balls, when the defense was expecting exactly that. Now with a stud at QB in Stafford, the most unguardable receiver in the league gets to do his thing, which is make amazing catches and score touchdowns. 2. Andre Johnson- There is really nothing more that can be said about this guy. He's big, tall, strong, fast, and humble. All he wants to do is help his team win, and to do that, you need to feed the big guy regularly. Almost a certain lock for 100/1200/8. 3. Mike Wallace- Once only thought to be a speed demon who caught long passes, he has now morphed into a poor man's Randy Moss, only with a better attitude. With Big Ben's ability to "extend the play" as the network folks like to say, Wallace can usually be found running all alone towards the end zone, and that's where Ben tends to find him. Now he's catching the shorter crossing routes as well, he's a dream in PPR leagues, and will get plenty of bonus points for long TD's. 4. Wes Welker- Did anyone ever think that a 5' nothin, a hundred and nothin oound lil white boy could ever ....No, not play a down for the Irish, but to become the #1 weapon, in the #1 passing offense in the league? Nope, I didn't either, but it has become appearant that Tom Brady will look to Welker as his first option, then probably again for his 4th option after he's had time to survey the field. Never the fastest, but always in the right position to make the plays. 5. Greg Jennings- Jennings has done ok so far this year, as they are tying to reintroduce Finely to the system. However, with a running game that is still trying to work itself out, the Pack will be relying heavily on the golden arm of Aaron Rodgers, and if the ball is going any distance in the air, it's usually Jennings that is running under it. I expect him to really turn it on here in the next few weeks. TE's 1. Rob Gronkowski- After 3 weeks this much is clear, the Patriots are going to run alot of 2 TE sets this year, so that will mean some big games for both guys (Aaron Hernandez). However, when only one TE is going to be on the field, it's going to be Gronk. Blessed with stickum woven into his hands at birth, this guy holds onto anything thrown his way. He could have easily saved that person in the burning building, but Billy Buckner did a fine job on Curb Your Enthusiasm. I've even seen him running past people this year. With Brady on pace to break his own single season TD record, I'd expect The Gronk to handle a good portion of those. 2. Jermichael Finley- He was the 2nd TE selected in the original draft, and he's not going to lose any ground now. He had a monster 3 TD game last week, and that's not going to be the last you see of him this year. Career numbers should be his floor, not his ceiling. 3. Jimmy Graham- The former b-baller from Miami had a few teachable moments early on this year. He has formed a great relationship with Drew Brees, and so far has become a safety blanket of sorts. As has been mentioned many times, Brees loves throwing to the TE. As the season progresses, so should the chemistry between these two. 4. Jason Witten- Due to some injuries so far to Tony Romo, Witten hasn't really had much of a chance to do any real damage. Once health arrives in Dallas, Romo to Witten will be revived. I would still expect to see him reach the 90's in receptions by season's end. 5. Owen Daniels- For the first time in the team's short history, they have started the season 3-0. The running game has been good, but so far unspectacular with Foster and his hammy. As the season goes on, and the run game gets better, that means that play action will become more of a weapon, and a healthy Daniels will be on the other end of those play action fakes. Of the original list, I actually drafted 3 of thpse players, Roddy White, Mike Wallace, and Vern Davis. Were I to redraft today, I would only select Wallace. I have since made some trades and along with some other players I received (Deion Branch, LawFirm), I got Stevie Johnson & Jimmy Graham in return for Roddy & VD. You never really get a chance to do a redraft, but through trades and waiver pick ups, you can pretend like it's a redraft and get the players you want with a little bit of hindsight to help you. . |
