Markus Rendell's blog ::FLASH FICTION FRIDAY, CYCLE 81: LIONS, TIGERS AND BEARS...OH, MY!

If               there               is               going               to               be               some               type               of               obscure               rule               come               into               play               during               a               National               Football               League               game,               you               can               bet               the               Detroit               Lions               will               be               involved,               and               on               the               short               end               of               the               proceedings.
Not               only               have               the               Lions               been               one               of               the               NFL's               worst               teams               over               the               years,               they               have               been               one               of               its               most               hard-luck               teams               as               well.
The               latest               controversy               took               place               Thanksgiving               Day               when               the               Lions               lost               to               the               Houston               Texans               34-31               in               overtime.
In               that               game               Houston               was               awarded               an               81-yard               touchdown               run               by               Justin               Forsett.

That's               even               though               he               was               actually               tackled               on               the               play               for               what               should've               been               a               seven-yard               gain.

The               officiating               crew               did               not               see               that               Forsett's               knee               clearly               touched               the               ground               when               he               was               tackled,               thus               ending               the               play.
However,               the               play               was               allowed               to               stand               because               Lions               coach               Jim               Schwartz               threw               a               red               challenge               flag,               which               you               can't               do               on               a               scoring               play.
               What               a               joke.

What               a               terrible               rule.

You               would               think               the               NFL               would               have               a               team               of               people               to               go               over               all               of               these               circumstances               before               putting               such               a               rule               in               place.
               Consider               all               of               this:
               1.

The               refs               blew               the               call.
               2.

The               running               back               essentially               cheated               because               he               kept               running               after               he               was               down.
               3.

The               one               person               (Schwartz)               who               sees               the               injustice               in               all               of               this               throws               a               challenge               flag,               albeit               in               error,               and               suffers               the               severest               of               punishment.
There               is               no               way               that               Schwartz'               error               should               be               more               severe               than               the               error               made               by               the               officials.

If               the               officials               had               done               their               job               properly               to               begin               with               Schwartz               would've               never               had               to               throw               a               challenge               flag.
The               4-7               Lions               have               a               hard               enough               time               trying               to               beat               their               opponents,               not               to               have               to               try               to               overcome               the               officiating               crew               as               well.

This               dumb               rule               should               be               overturned               immediately.

But               an               even               bigger               loser               in               this               than               the               Lions               is               the               NFL.

For               the               National               Football               League               to               allow               a               score               that               obviously               didn't               happen,               stand,               is               a               travesty.

It               is               a               blow               to               the               integrity               of               their               sport.
